SAVING THE LIVES OF CHILDREN
Madres de Nicaragua is a Canadian registered charity that is saving the lives of poor children in Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the western hemisphere.
We do this by providing financial support to poor single mothers to raise them above the poverty level, and ensure their children receive adequate vaccinations and education.
Each mother receives $80.00 and $20 for each child in school, plus $10 for transportation every month.
HOW WE WORK
Madres de Nicaragua is a registered Canadian non-profit charitable organization that will generate income tax deduction receipts for donors.
We work directly with local nuns in rural areas of Nicaragua, to identify prospective mothers, follow up with tracking and confirmation of prospective recipients. We transfer money directly to the mother’s bank accounts which we set up for them.
We work with financial institutions that will transfer funds at a reduced charge.
Recipient mothers are required to provide vaccination certificates and report cards of their children.
WHAT WE ASK
Donors are asked to sign Pre-authorized debit agreements to help automate the donation process for both chequing accounts and credit cards. Go to the donate page for instructions.
The monitoring of donations and the issuing of payments to mothers are done by volunteers, working with the bank in Nicaragua.
Unlike other NGOs or charities, there is no overhead, no wages, salaries or expenses paid. All money donated goes to recipients, except for minor fund transfer fees.
